I was saddened to learn that Scott Weiland, former front man for San Diego based hard rock band, Stone Temple Pilots, and Los Angeles supergroup, Velvet Revolver, passed away at the age of 48.

Both Stone Temple Pilots’ and Velvet Revolver’s first albums, entitled Core and Contraband, respectively, are two of my favorites.

All the years I’ve tried
With more to go
Will the memories die
I’m waiting
Will I find you
Can I find you
We’re falling down
I’m falling
Every time I’m falling down
All alone I fall to pieces

    • I was waiting for you to comment on this as a fellow lover of music!

I like Purple as well. “Still Remains” is likely my favorite song off that album.

A very talented singer and performer for sure.

By the way, I have not forgotten about the list of albums we discussed. I think I am going to do a list of favorite songs instead.

      • Purple was always one of those albums I could just play straight through. I love Big Empty and Kitchenware and Candybars. And I have walked into work many days singing the first two lines from Meatplow;)

And I’ve been called Sourgirl since 1999.

I would love to read a post of your favorite songs and then leave long, rambling comments about them. Looking forward to that πŸ™‚

      • Purple was one of the first albums I bought. I agree that just about all the songs are great. Favorites for me include Big Empty, Silver Gun Superman, Still Remains, and Lounge Fly. You are also aware of the secret song after Kitchenware and Candybars, right?

Yes, Sourgirl. That’s a great song from Number 4. Awful video though. Not even Sarah Michelle Gellar could save it! LOL

I am still working on the list and trying to determine how I want to formulate it. But, I look forward to sharing. πŸ™‚

      • Oh, lord, the teletubbies video. Yes, it was strange.

I have heard the extra song! How awesome was that, back in the day? Those extra tracks? I can name quite a few albums from the late 80s and 90s that had those secret hidden tracks. Like you were getting a little present.

Take your time on that list. Mine was really rushed.

  1. I love both STP and VR… reading the news this AM made me incredibly sad. I posted this exact video on FB… couldn’t ever sing it without getting emotional.

    • I posted part of the lyrics for “You Got No Right” by VR as well as the video but, while I love the song, I didn’t feel it fit the emotions I felt so I posted “Fall to Pieces” instead.

      Certainly very sad.

    • Karin, when I posted the video for “Fall to Pieces,” though I have seen it many times, I did not watch it last night. This morning, after waking up, I did watch it all the way through and also became a little misty-eyed and emotional in the scene where Duff is trying to help Scott.

      • I dated a bassist and it was never like that, we were not into anything crazy but it’s always been a reminder of what can go wrong. It’s kinda my ‘stiff upper lip’ song nowadays.

    • Weiland was found deceased on a tour bus in Bloomington, Minnesota, on December 3rd. He was scheduled to play there with his current band “The Wildabouts.”A cause of death has not been released though it has been reported he passed in his sleep.

      • Loved STP! One of the bands of my 20’s for sure. They’ll always remind me of the times during my wife and I meeting then dating. Great memories their music conjures up for me. Too sad.

      • I really love “Core” and “Purple.” They were one of my favorite bands in the 1990s as I began to really get into music.

I hated they were labelled as grunge. I still don’t know what “grunge” means. Their music evolved so much from a heavy metal/hard rock to more of a psychedelic, David Bowie style. I feel each of their albums are truly different and distinct from one another.

I also wasn’t sure if the Velvet Revolver combination with him and Guns N Roses members would work but I liked their music a lot. In some curious and odd way, the combination worked.

  2. Scott Weiland died and suddenly my friends moms book of Scott Weiland that was signed by him moved during the day to a different spot and her son said she was lying that it didn’t move and he was holding his phone and it was off and suddenly it turned on by its self when they were talking about the book and it turned on and there was a picture of Scott Weiland. He didn’t like Scott and he never hand a picture or googled him but a picture of him came up.😱
